What are gross motor skills?
Gross motor skills involve movements of the large muscles of the arms, legs and torso. That includes the large (core stabilising) muscles of the body to perform everyday functions, such as standing, walking, running, jumping and sitting upright.
Gross Motor Obstacle Course
We have partnered with Louise Ried and her team at Jungle Fit to design and install an obstacle course. This course will challenge our Voories and will focus specifically on their physical development.
Gross motor abilities have an influence on everyday functions, such as walking, running and the ability to maintain appropriate tabletop posture (upper body support) to attend to class instruction. Gross motor skills will also affect fine motor skills (e.g. writing, drawing and cutting). Without fair gross motor skills, a child will struggle with many day-to-day tasks and sporting skills (e.g. throwing, catching and hitting a ball with a bat or racket).
And most importantly,
it’s fun!
